Sony may not have sold many PS3s in India, but they have succeeded in selling thousands of PS2s and PSPs which is priced at a low Rs7k, Rs9K respectively. Microsoft has noted this trend and they have decided to launch their no-frills model Xbox360 Arcade in the country.
The product will be priced at Rs. 16,500 and is not VERY different from Xbox core. In US, it came bundled with five arcade style games (Pac-Man, Boom Boom Rocket, Feeding Frenzy, Luxor 2, and Uno), a wireless controller, HDMI, and a 256MB memory card. Hopefully they will being out something similar (with a little extras) in India.
Xbox360 Core is sold for a Rs. 20K+ price tag as of now. It needs to be seen how much difference such a console can make in the price-sensitive Indian market. Also it is not clear if they will pack in a Xbox Live limited time-period gold membership. That could make a difference I say!
Launch dates have not been announced yet but I am hoping it will within a months or so. The earlier the better… Best of luck MS…
